Semi-automatic espresso machines offer just the right amount of control over how your espresso is made. While they may look different, the basic functionality of a semi-automatic espresso machine includes a boiler, a portafilter, and a switch or lever to perform the extraction. You’ll still grind and tamp your espresso (or insert an espresso pod), start the extraction and then steam or froth your milk as necessary. Semi-automatic espresso machines fall into two different types:
Manual Control: On these semi-automatic espresso machines, the shot is initiated and you stop it once you decide the extraction is complete, usually in 20-30 seconds. This offers real-time control over the length of your extractions
Programmable Doses: These semi-automatic espresso machines allow you to program the extraction to stop after a specific amount of time.
